Every Mindful Teens session starts the same way: chairs in a circle, phones away, and a promise that what is shared in the room stays in the room. Then we ask a simple question: what is weighing on you right now?
This term, the answers came quickly. Exams topped the list, closely followed by money worries at home, pressure to choose the right career and the quiet loneliness of feeling misunderstood.
The questions they asked
- "Is it normal to feel anxious even when I have studied?"
- "How do I tell my parents I am not coping?"
- "What do I do when my friend says they want to give up?"
Each question became a conversation. We talked about how stress affects the body and the mind, practised simple breathing and grounding exercises, and role-played how to start a difficult conversation with a parent or teacher.
"Nobody ever told us that feeling stressed does not mean you are weak."
Small tools, real difference
We left each student with a short, practical toolkit: how to break revision into manageable pieces, how sleep and food affect concentration, and who they can talk to at school when things feel heavy. The school counsellor joined the final part of the session so students knew exactly where to find support after we left.
Mindful Teens is part of our Nurturing Minds Initiative. If your school would like to host a session, our Programs Department would love to hear from you.
